Kit Contents

The Hummingbird Duo comes in four different sizes: The classroom kit is appropriate for 8 to 12 students and has parts for up to 4 simultaneous robotics projects. The premium kit has enough parts to build a large robot, and the base kit has sufficient parts for a small robot. Finally, the controller kit contains the Hummingbird Duo controller, power, USB, and a tool for attaching electronics, and is perfect if you wish to upgrade from the original Hummingbird kit or want to build and attach your own parts. Check out the table below for details on what is included with each kit, or scroll down for unboxing videos and pictures of the kits.

The Hummingbird Duo classroom kit is designed for the classroom. Parts are housed in a durable plastic organizer tray, and in addition to Hummingbird components the kit also includes a printed teacher guide, four USB flash bands, four Hummingbird pens, and a copy of the book Invent-To-Learn. One classroom kit is sufficient for a small class or group of 8-12 students; a regular classroom will probably require two or three kits.

The Hummingbird Duo controller kit contains the Hummingbird Duo controller, a power supply, a USB cable, and a terminal tool for attaching electronics. The controller kit is great for upgrading an original Hummingbird kit to take advantage of Duo's Arduino functionality. DIYers can also get out their soldering irons to create their own Duo-inspired LEDs, motors, and sensors. Please consult our datasheet for instructions regarding voltage and current limits when attaching non-Hummingbird kit parts to the Hummingbird Duo controller.

Unboxing The Hummingbird Robotics Kit

Original kit parts were organized into four sub-kits:

The Control Sub-Kit (Original Hummingbird - Discontinued)

The Hummingbird controller was the core of the kit and provided the means to use the various motors, LEDs, and sensors. The control sub-kit also included an auxiliary motor power supply, a USB cable to connect Hummingbird to the computer, and a handy screwdriver to simplify connecting components.

The Light & Vibration Sub-Kit (Original Hummingbird - Discontinued)

The original Hummingbird kit contained eight single color LEDs (two each of green, red, yellow, and orange), as well as two tri-color LEDs. It also contained two vibration motors similar to the type found in cell phones.

The Motion Sub-Kit (Original Hummingbird - Discontinued)

The original Hummingbird kit came with four HS-311 servos, four extension cables for these servos, and two regular DC motors.

The Sensing Sub-Kit (Original Hummingbird - Discontinued)

The original Hummingbird kit came with light, temperature, sound, and distance sensors, as well as a rotary knob.
